Play by Post? General Guidelines

Hey all, I'm interested in playing, but I'm not sure how a play-by-post campaign works. For instance, is there a required number of posts per day or a general order like initiative? How does combat work? I'd appreciate it if you could write up a general rulebook or something like that. Thankya kindly, Boom (aka james_gaines).

Hey Boom/Jaimes_gaines. I think we'll be playing it fast and loose with rules for the time being, until more people arrive, or unless there's a problem. I would like people to post as often as possible, but there is no hard and fast rule about it. I'll work on a set of rules/guidelines, and I'll have them posted as soon as I can. Until then, I encourage everyone to Role-play freely and come up with whatever stories they wish. =]

So... do we just jump in when someone starts a thread/scene? I'm new to this whole thing, not sure of the protocol.

Well, the basic idea is that someone starts a thread, describing a scene and introducing a character. Other players then reply, posting their character's actions. This sort of thing is pretty simple, but it's really just filler/warmup. I'll start making some more complex stories in a bit when I have the time to write more lengthly posts.

Ok, cool, if I start a basic one is anyone interested in joining? I don't plan for it to be very long, I'm more curious than anything else. Haven't done a play-by-post but I've DM'd one or two campaigns.

Ah, and I had an idea. Maybe we could have a forum for Character Stories as well as In-Character-Roleplaying. I have a basic storyline in my head and I enjoy writing, I bet a couple of other people do too. It doesn't really belong in Roleplaying, though.
